Our day starts at 8:30 AM by driving 25 min from Liberia downtown through the small villages of Colorado and Curubande, making one short stop at a “ Soda “ to taste costa rican coffe, bread and fruits to then continue for 10 more minutes to our first waterfall: La Oropendola located at the slopes of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano.
Once there we’ll be ready for a refreshing swim in the Oropendula Waterfall. The trail is 500 meters singletrack so together 1 Km. The Oropendula Waterfall spills an impressive 82 feet (25 meters) down to a bright turquoise pool in the picturesque lush canyon of the Rio Blanco (White River).
After one hour at La Oropendola Waterfall we will continue to our second destination - Rio Negro Hotsprings: Surrounded by a dense dry tropical forest, the Rio Negro Hot Springs area is beautiful and peaceful. The crystal clear waters of the river flow near the 10 pools built on the riverbank, filled with thermal waters rich in minerals, naturally heated in the depths of the volcano. You can access the pools on both banks of the river thanks to two suspension bridges.
For a rejuvenating treatment on your body, you can use the hot volcanic mud, which works just like a spa body masque. When the mud dries, you can wash it in the cold waters of the river before entering the thermal water pools again.
We have dressing rooms, bathrooms, and lockers at the entrance of the hot springs. From there, you walk 350 meters along a beautiful path in the woods until you reach the thermal springs.
Once we finish at Rio Negro Hotsprings we will continue to Poza La Pipa ( La Pipa Pools ) in Curubande where the Blanco and the Colorado rivers cross through, forming canyons and beautiful scenery which is why the water in their pools have that special turquoise tint.
After Poza La Pipa we will go back to Curubande downtown to have a typical Costa Rican Lunch
